Any fair spectator watching this would have to agree that we threw away 2 points against local rivals CB Hounslow United.
We were in control of the game right from the first whistle, and we had already squandered a couple of chances before Steve Loveridge fired a shot past his mate Terry Buss after just 22 minutes. A combination of determined defending, good goalkeeping and terrible finishing meant that we took that solitary goal into the break. We should really have been taking 4.
The 2nd half was similar to first in so much we took the game to our visitors. When Jack Mills fired home from the edge of the box after 50 minutes for our 2nd it looked as though the 3 points were safe. Not so though.
CB were very determined and at no time gave up and. in the 86th minute, Chris Ogunlana played a short pass across our back 4, CB’s Jordon Ireland reacted first and slipped the ball under Michael Eacott in our goal for what looked to be a consolation goal.
3 minutes later our defenders made a complete mess of defending a long ball into our box and Jack Watts scored with his head to make the score 2-2. A point dropped but surely we could see this game out!
Well as it turns out the answer was nope! Another defensive mix up 2 minutes later had the same result as the last and Jack Watts scored his 2nd to but CB in front in injury time. Incredibly, in the space of 5 minutes we had managed to throw away a game we were looking comfortable in.
With our very disgruntled supporters heading towards the bar, and the clock running down rapidly, the boys somehow managed to redeem themselves slightly. A desperate last attack ended with Tom Neal scoring an equaliser to earn us a point at least. I don’t think it prevented the boys getting a rollicking from Rufus after the game, and to be honest, they will know that they deserved one for failing to almost lose from a very strong position. Better game management required on the field.
