A stunning brace from Tom Neale and typical Levi King finish ensured that we ended October unbeaten, in complete contrast to the previous month when we failed to win a game.

North Greenford came into this game on a three match league winning streak and their confidence showed as they made a bright start. United began the game well, and were the sharper of the two sides during the early exchanges.  Indeed, the Blues created the best chance to open the scoring when, on the end of a fine flowing move, Nathaniel Mensah had a clear sight on goal but mistimed his shot and side-footed the ball well wide of Tristan’s goal.

After the opening 15 minutes we started to get to grips with the game, our midfields pressing started to break up NGU’s passing game and we began to take control of the game.

On the half hour mark a swift counter attack caught the Greenford defence flat footed and Tom Neale took full advantage. Racing onto a through ball he took his shot early and fired home, across the keeper, from the corner of the penalty area. A nicely taken goal.

The game was being played at a high tempo and the Greenford players found it increasingly difficult to cope with our pressing game but, to their credit, they managed to hold out until the break.

Second half, and despite playing up the notorious “Greenford hill”, we continued to command most of the possession, limiting our hosts to the occasional counter attack.

On the hour we doubled our lead. Tom Neale was brought down on the right hand edge of the penalty area and up stepped Levi to float the free kick over everybody into the far corner of the net. No doubt those that don’t know him will say that he was lucky, but all regular villa supporters will know better.

The second goal seemed to spark a bit of life into the blues and they stepped up their game to begin causing us a few anxious moments. There were a couple of hairy moments when shots when narrowly wide and those that did find the target were dealt with Tristan in our goal. One save, from a free kick, was particularly impressive.

Greenford’s pressing however left them more open at the back and, with 10 to play, Tom Neale made the points safe when he chased down a long through ball and fired past the keeper, this time from 30 yards. An even better goal than his first.

With time running out our hosts pulled a goal back through Sandro Costa who got onto the end of a nice through ball. Tristan managed to get something onto the ball but he couldn’t prevent the ball crossing the line.

All in all another strong performance from all of our boys. The defence, lead by Adam Baigent, is starting to show the form of last season and both the midfield and forwards are putting in good shifts to make it difficult for our opponents. The effort shown is reflected in our recent results. 8 matches in October have produced 6 wins and 2 draws a distinct improvement to the previous month when we could only muster 2 draws from 7 fixtures. Well done boys. Keep it up.
