Our debut in this years FA Cup ended in a replay after our hosts equalised following a 2nd half penalty.
Crowborough have very nice, tidy ground, with a good playing surface and with the hot weather finally cooling the scene was set for the opening of this years premier cup competition.
The “Crows”, much as we are, are at the start of a team re-building exercise. This meant that both line ups had a larger number of younger players, the vast majority of which were making their first appearance in the competition. The combination of inexperience and eagerness meant that the game was played at a frantic pace with a lot of long ball play from both sides.
We were the team doing the pressing in the 1st half and when Charlie McGee headed us into the lead in the 25th minute not many of the 100+ crowd would deny that we deserved the lead. A special mention needs to made of the part that Arale Mohammed played in the build up, quick feet producing the room for him to provide a great cross into the box.
In the 2nd half the momentum swung to our hosts. On the whole we defended well but in the 68th minute Jeffery Iwimasi slightly mistimed a tackle which lead to the award of a penalty. Tel Buss made a typical Bussy save for the pen but Crowborough twice reacted first for the rebounds, hitting the bar with the first before Christopher Sholu finally forced the ball over the line to earn a replay.
Thank you to our hosts for a great day on and off the pitch and we look forward to reciprocating on Tuesday night at the Ranch. 7.30 kick off.
