LIFT OFF FOR NEW YEAR

The final game of 2019 and a tough call if the new management team were to reach their first target, to be off the bottom of the league by 2020.

Southall are widely regarded as one of the best teams in the league, free scoring and very strong in defence, but the side that Simon and Paul have put together in the last few weeks proved to be a match for them.

The hosts had the most of the opening exchanges but it was our boys that opened the scoring when Bruno Tingle deftly lobbed the Southall keeper from 20 yards. A lovely finish to put us in front. The lead didn’t last long however. We were still celebrating our goal when the lively Southall forward equalised. All square at the break.

The boss changed our formation at the break and the new setup allowed us more of the ball in the opposition half and we started to create a number of chances for ourselves. The defences, however, kept the upper hand and despite an entertaining half neither side could score the winner.

The point was enough to take us above CB Hounslow on goal difference and, if we can take advantage of our games in hand, we could finally see some daylight between the bottom of the league and ourselves.
