A LATE POINT AT THE ABBEY
I wasn’t at the game so forgive me because this report is all 2nd hand, a little vague, and maybe not completely accurate.
Story I was told that although we started very well it was our hosts who took the lead in the 6th minute with a nice lobbed goal from Cooper-Smith. Despite going behind we were the team that was on the front foot and it was no surprise when Jamie Thouroughgood scored an equailser, nor when big Duncan Culley headed home from a corner to give us a 2-1 lead. Also not a surprise was that we couldn’t hold on to a lead for more than 2 minutes. Marcus Cousins scoring for the hosts to make it 2 each at the break. All in all a good half from our boys.
Abbey upped their game in the 2nd half and started to take charge. Abbey were awarded a penalty (never a pen according to my sources) but we needn’t of worried because Terry Buss made his umpteeth penalty save to keep the score level.
The hosts did take the lead again, and once more it was that man Cousins who scored his 2nd and to be honest what looked liked Abbey’s winner.
In recent weeks the new gaffer has instilled some passion in our boys and to their credit they didn’t give up, even though the lack of fitness of a number of them was showing. The effort paid of as, very deep in injury time, JIm Fenlon became the unlikely hero by forcing home an equalizer for a very valuable point.
The draw means that we are unbeaten in our last 3 games, all of which have been played against 3 of the leagues top sides. Simon and Paul have done wonders in the short time they have had the reigns. Lets hope it continues and we start to climb the table.
