Middlesex Charity Cup – 2nd Round

@Ashford Town FC, Short Ln, Stanwell TW19 7BH

A goal scored late into over time was finally enough to knock us out of the MIddx Charity Cup at the 2nd round stage.

The boss used this game as an opportunity to play a number of players that haven’t seen many minutes lately, and to be fair, they put on a good display against a strong Southall side.

We will remember this game for a number of reasons. First off Terry Buss damaged a hand after 5 minutes and had to be replaced in goal by Louis Taylor. Lou stint in goal didn’t last long as he quickly got sent off for a challenge deemed by the egotistical referee as dangerous. Bruno Tingle stepped up to take his place in the goal.

15 minutes to go, with the scores level at 1 each, the ref struck again. This time he awarded us a penalty only to state that he was “only joking” when the ball was retrieved and put back in play. Our assistant manager didn’t appreciate the joke and was promptly shown a red card for “over reacting”. You couldn’t make it up.

The game looked as though it was heading to a penalty shoot out when the hosts scored deep into over time to take their place in the next round and a tie against Harefield Utd. Good luck to them.
