Our 2nd Pre Season friendly ended, eventually, in a comfortable victory over FA Cup opponents, Bedfont & Feltham.

Despite the scoreline it would be foolish to assume that progress in the FA Cup is going to be a formality. This was a typical PSF. A boiling hot day, a dry bumpy pitch and an opponent who have only just started to orgainise themselves for the forthcoming campaign. Rufus, on the other hand, had plenty of players to call on and it was obvious right from the start that we were a couple of weeks more advanced to our preparations.

Our starting 11 put together a good performance, controlling the vast majority of possession and creating a number of good chances, they were, however, unable to take any of them and it remained goalless at the break. The 2nd half was a completely different story.

The Boss made wholesale changes at the break and we started the half with almost a completely new team, and this side had no trouble finding the net.

Our first goal came in the 48th minute and it was a fantastic return to football for Mason Welch-Turner. This was Mason’s first appearance after 18 months out with a horrible broken leg suffered in a game at Cove the season before last. There didn’t seem to be any lasting effect as he volleyed home from close range to break the deadlock.

We only had to wait a couple of minutes for our 2nd goal. Luke Muldowney seemed to be shaping up a long pass out wide but the wiley old fox fooled us all by knocking a great ball down the centre for Micky Vincent to get the slightest of headers and guide the ball pass the advancing keeper.

Our 3rd goal was scored by Alfie White. Usually a full back but Rufus experimented with playing Alf up front and it turned out to be quite a success. In the 63rd minute our new keeper Michael Eacott launched a huge goal-kick and Alfie was quickest to react and scored with a very assured finish.

B&F had had enough by now and chances came thick and fast for us. Cyril Ocansey scored in the 69th minute, his second pre season goal. Athan Smith-Joseph scored a pretty special solo goal in the 80th minute and Alfie completed the scoring with his 2nd with 5 minutes to go.

All in all a satisfying 2nd half. All the players put in plenty of effort under testing conditions. Next up we have a stern test when Chalfont St Peter roll up for our annual fixture.
