A very good performance from the lads, especially when you take a very wet pitch and the freezing rain into account.
This was the reverse of our opening day fixture which ended in a goal less draw, but there was no shortage of goals in this game once Ben Merson broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a smart near post header. The next 15 minutes saw us score a further 4 times. Sam Merson scored number 2, from the penalty spot, & number 3 when he rounded the keeper to roll the ball home. Not to be outdone Ben then scored his 2nd with another thumping header before Sam completed his hat trick by capitalising on a poor clearance which he smashed into the top corner. 5 nil at half time.
Sam Merson was replaced by Elliott Simpson at half time and he took over the goalscoring reins by scoring our 6th and 7th goals in the 60th and 77th minute. Both goals scored from close in.
With the clock running down Ben was determined to match his brothers hat trick, and he got his oppourtunity when we were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Ignoring the pleas of his teammates to not shoot he fired past the keeper to complete what was an excellent days work by him.
A very important win for us, especially as most other games were called off. We managed to get some minutes under our belts after the Christmas layoff and certainly did our goal difference no harm at all.
