Combined Counties Premier Division

A tough encounter this. Egham are a good side with a lot of skill and with strong players who don’t mind putting in the tackles that are necessary. That made our win all the more special.

Right from the start it was obvious that we were going to have to work hard if we were to get anything out of this game. The visitors started well and pegged us back into our half for the first 5 minutes making it difficult for us to get any decent procession at all, then all of a sudden we were in the lead.

Brandon Barzey, playing at full back in a rearranged line-up, picked up a loose ball, ghosted past 2 players and passed to Sid Dack, who was making his first start of the season. Sid turned and smashed an unstoppable shot into the top bin. A great goal. Against the early run of the game perhaps but still a great goal.

With the goal behind us we managed to settle into the passing game that the manager is trying to encourage and we started to create chances, but strong defending, and good goalkeeping meant that we took the single goal lead into the break.

The visitors started the second half positively and quickly levelled the scores with a firmly hit strike from out wide on the right which sailed over Terry’s head into the net. 1 each 52nd minute.

If the ball for the Egham goal was meant to be a cross it was a bad one but if it was a shot it was a cracker, as was Sam Merson’s a minute later to put us back into the lead. Brandon once again the provider and Sam did the rest with a rocket from the edge of the box to continue his record of scoring in every league game.

Back in the lead we were having to work hard to keep charge of the game. Our cause got a bit easier when, with 10 to go, the Egham forward that had been causing most of our problems got himself needlessly sent off. Already on a yellow, and with the ball out of play, he pushed Louis Taylor over. No idea why but he had to go.

The dismissal took something out of the very spirited Sarnies side and this allowed us to make the points safe with a 3rd. Meshach Williams once again contributing a goal. A hard fought 3 points against probably the toughest team we have came up against yet. Well done lads. Away to Guildford City on Saturday.
