Sam Merson

Sam Merson’s 2nd hatrick in consecutive league games, and an all round excellent team performance, saw us win a very hard fought game against one this seasons fancied teams.

Southall have been one of the leagues better sides and this year have made an investment into a push for promotion. With a side full of big strong players it quickly became obvious that intimidation was going to be one of their tactics in a highly competivive first half. As usual this particular tactic didn’t work against our side and the boys gave as good as they got as the two sides swapped attack for attack.

The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute when a weak corner was cleared back to the corner taker. This time delivery was much better and his firmly struck low ball into the area alluded everyone and nestled into the corner of the net. This goal, despite plenty of enterprising play from both sides, proved to be the only goal of the half. 1 nil to “The All” at the break.

The 2nd half saw our boys come out on the front foot in search of the equaliser. Brandon Brazey, who had an amazing game all round, and Sam Merson had caused the Southall defense problems most of the evening and our early 2nd half pressure started to produce chances.

In the 51st minute a corner Sam Merson was first to the ball and he gave the keeper no chance. 1 all, and deserved equaliser. 10 minutes later a repeat of the scenario meant that Sam had his 2nd of the game and we were in the lead.

Our tails were really up now. The introduction of Mesach Williams meant an injection of pace down our right side, stretching the Southall defence even further, and producing almost instant results as the exceptional Brandon Brazey fired home a much deserved goal for our 3rd in the 69th minute.

The 3rd goal took all the fight out of our hosts and it was no surprise when, in the 85th minute, Sammy Gagan won the ball in midfield and slipped a lovely ball through for Merse to complete his 2nd hat trick in as many league games.

A hard fought and deserved victory, much celebrated by the Villains supporters who were once again present in good numbers. Onto the FA Vase Saturday.
