Two wins in a week saw us move up into second place in the table. This may just be a short term thing if Westfield take advantage of their games in hand, but it is still quite an achievement by Rufus and the boys. Our current points, 62 from 32 games, is also our best ever Premier division tally, 3 ahead of the number amassed by “The Dogs” side in the 2011/12 season.
Our first win, on Tuesday night, was against bottom of the table Badshot Lea. The damage was done in the 1st half. A very sound team performance on a very boggy pitch saw us take a comfortable 4 goal lead into the break. Our goals scored by Jessie Atiase, Adam Baigent and Tom Neale (2). With the job done, and the result assured, our performance was understandably more subdued in the 2nd 45 mins but Tom did manage to complete his hat trick, making his season tally 15.
Saturday we completed the season double over one of our bogey sides, Guildford City. An unfortunate mistake from Bobby in goal meant that we fell behind after just 10 minutes but once Jermaine Queensborough equalised in the 35th minute we never looked like losing the game. Our winner, in the 73rd minute, was scored by a boomerang boy. Rossie Cheetham recently returned to the club after taking “a bit of a layoff” and his goal was a typical Choo Choo goal, racing onto a short back pass, rounding the keeper, and slotting home. Welcome back Ross.
All in all a good week. Saturday we travel to Abbey Rangers and on Tuesday we take on our lofty neighbours, Hampton & Richmond, in the semi final of the Middlesex Senior Cup. Your support will be most welcome at either, or both, games.
