The Extra Preliminary round
HVFC 1 – 3 Loxwood

A disappointing exit at the first stage. Missing a penalty and hitting the woodwork on 3 occasions this was a game that we had control of but failure to take our chances  caused our downfall as our visitors converted almost every attack they had. Good luck to them in the next round.

2nd round
Glebe 1 – 1 HVFC
(Glebe won 5-4 on penalties)

We suspected that our tie against Glebe may be a tough game and so it proved. The game itself wasn’t a classic as both sides cancelled one another out.

The first half finished goalless, with neither side having many chances. The 2nd half was a slightly more open affair but chances were still few and far between, and any chances that did arise were wasted with some shoddy finishing.

68 minutes in Glebe hitman, Jamie Philpot took advantage of some lax control and poor defending by our boys to fire home, smartly, from outside the box. The type of skill required to split the two sides.

The goal brought a bit of urgency to our game and we started to apply pressure in an effort to score the equaliser. With the game deep in overtime our opponents were defending deep in their own half and just when it looked as though they were going to hold out, Elliott Simpson smashed a half hit clearance but the huge Glebe keeper. We had levelled with the last kick of the game. Late but probably deserved.

The game deserved a period of extra time but current rules dictate that the tie goes straight to pens. The shoot out finished 5-4 to the hosts. Neither keeper made a save but unfortunately MK missed with his effort.
