Just the 3 for the boys

What a season for Nigel James and his Under 18’s squad.

A 4-2 win over close rivals Ascot United in their penultimate league game meant that a victory over bottom of the table Hartley Wintney would see them win the Allied Youth League (Central Division) at their 1st attempt. As it turned out the edge was taken of the achievement slightly when Hartley were unable to fulfill the fixture meaning the boys become Champions by default. Chances are they would have had a comfortable win anyhow.

Winning the league meant the lads were entered into the Champions Cup, a knockout competition with the winners of the other 3 Allied Counties leagues. We were drawn to play away to Didcot Town the winners of the North Division. Goals form Hassan Habimana and Scottie Walker saw us through to the final with a 2 nil win.

The final was played at Bracknell Town FC against Camberley Town the winners of the South Division. Camberley progressed to the final by beating East Division Champions North Greenford Utd by 5 goals to 1. Over the years, of all the team our 1st team have faced, Camberley have proven to be the hardest to beat. This appears not to be a problem for our young guns. They produced a fantastic performance on the night and ran out easy winners with a goal from Teo Kurtaran, 2 from Kevin Nyarko and just the 4 for Golden Boot winner Scott Walker.

Not content with winning all the trophies that the Allied League had to offer, Nigel and his boys also decided to plunder the Combined Counties League walking away with the Grant-McLellan trophy, and what a way to do it.

After defeating Dorking Wanderers, on their own patch, in the semi final the boys had to face Walton & Hersham, at Abbey Rangers, to complete the treble. Prepared to the maximum as usual by Nigel and Cec the boys made very short work of putting this final to bed. A goal after 3 mins was followed in very short time by 2 more in the next 10 minutes and the game turned into a procession. Despite being totally dominant the lads refused to take their foot off the pedal and added another 6 goals to complete a 9 nil rout. I apologise for not knowing the goals scorers but it was an all round amazing performance.

Not a bad first season. Cant wait for the next.
