Big Changes at Rectory Meadow: A New Era for Hanworth Villa FC

This summer marks a transformative chapter in the proud history of Hanworth Villa Football Club, as Rectory Meadow undergoes the most significant developments it has ever seen. Thanks to major investment and the support of our main sponsor and development partners, Blakedown Sport & Play, we have installed a state-of-the-art synthetic playing surface that will propel the club into an exciting new era.
The new artificial pitch is of the highest grade available and is a cornerstone of our long-term “One Club, One Home” strategy. The pitch is made up of the latest technology in artificial playing surfaces and consists of a FIFA quality 3g high-performance shock pad and the latest PRO-gran infill, which players and supporters will note is green and not black as seen on other artificial surfaces.
The PRO-gran infill is the ultimate in playing and safety performance surface, the green infill provides almost no “splash”, no aroma, reduces the surface temperature and reduces the risk of skin abrasions by up-to 25%
With our environmental strategy also playing a key role in decision making this modern surface is better for the environment and exceeds the European Union toxicology standards since it releases no heavy metals or micro plastics and carries a lot less risk to the environment and users.
The move to an artificial surface not only a reduces the risk of postponements for the first team and our ground-share with London Samurai but also enables us to host more training and youth fixtures at Rectory Meadow, offering the best possible facilities to the next generation of Hanworth Villa players. Not only this the facility will be available for clubs, football groups and schools to hire.
The building works are progressing well and are set to be completed on schedule for early August, the new surface has now been laid and will be ready to host football shortly. Due to the nature of the overall stadium works and to allow us to undertake operational testing and checks we will not be hosting any first team matches in August, with away draws in the FA Cup and FA Trophy this hasn’t had any major impact on our scheduled fixtures.
It is not only a new playing surface at Rectory Meadow, but spectator facilities are also receiving a major boost. For the first time supporters will have access to all four sides of the pitch, with new structures and other improvements enhancing the matchday experience. Plans are also in place for the future for additional terracing both covered and uncovered and more seating, which will help us increase our safe operating capacity in the future.
Off the pitch, we’re excited to unveil our new Fan Zone, which will feature upgraded food outlets, a new bar and a relaxed space for fans to enjoy before and after the match all in one central location. A brand-new club shop, generously supported by Safe Drive Systems (SDS), will offer an expanded range of merchandise and a better experience for our loyal and visiting supporters.
Not all changes will be visible at first glance. Essential infrastructure upgrades including underground cabling and ducting will support an enhanced PA system, better Wi-Fi coverage for our operations, all made possible by our new fibre internet installation and upgraded internal IT networks. Enhanced security systems and CCTV will also help ensure the safety and security of visitors and our new facilities. These behind-the-scenes improvements are key to supporting our growing media, hospitality, and digital operations along with providing a better matchday for supporters and those using the facilities at other times.
Our volunteer workforce will also benefit from a new secure maintenance hub with workshops, equipment storage, and areas to allow us to maintain both the new surface and existing grass pitches, which will improve life for our volunteers.
Other areas of the club, while not undergoing full redevelopment just yet are being given a well-earned refresh. The dressing rooms, boardroom, toilets, and bar areas are all receiving deep cleans and a fresh coat of paint, ensuring the whole ground reflects the pride we take in our club.
This is just Phase One of our ambitious development plan. Work will continue behind the scenes in preparation for future upgrades over the coming years, and we are confident that the changes taking place now will lay the foundation for sustained success both on and off the pitch.
Founded in 1976, Hanworth Villa has always been a club rooted in community spirit and ambition. Rectory Meadow, our beloved home, has seen many memorable moments over the decades from cup runs to promotions and these developments promise to create many more.

Our first planned home fixture will be on Saturday 13th September when we host Hayes & Yeading United in the Isthmian League.
