As the year draws to a close, it’s time to look back on what has been another memorable chapter in the story of Hanworth Villa Football Club. 2025 has been a year full of pride, progress, and passion, on and off the pitch, and one that has brought our club closer together than ever.
Another Play-Off Push
Once again, the Villains showed their credentials as one of the division’s most competitive and determined sides. A strong campaign in 24/25 saw us reach our second play-off final, a testament to the consistency, resilience, and quality within the squad and management team. While the final itself ended in disappointment, with Uxbridge narrowly denying us promotion, the journey to that point was filled with moments that reminded everyone what this club stands for: hard work, belief, and togetherness. Falling just short was tough to take, but it also underlined the progress being made and the ambition that continues to drive the club forward.
Moments to Remember
Every season has moments that live long in the memory, and 2025 was no exception. One standout highlight was Sam Merson’s sensational goal against Farnham, a strike that captured the imagination far beyond Rectory Meadow. The goal earned widespread recognition, with Sam deservedly picking up multiple Goal of the Season awards, shining a spotlight on both his quality and the exciting brand of football being played by the Villains.
Moments like these don’t just win matches, well in this case draw the match against eventual league champions Farnham – they define seasons and give supporters memories to cherish.
A New Home Takes Shape
Away from matchdays, 2025 will be remembered as a landmark year for the club’s future. The new stadium build moved from vision to reality, with major developments including a brand-new pitch and improved facilities that will serve players, supporters, and the wider community for years to come. This project represents far more than bricks and grass – it’s a statement of ambition and belief in the club’s long-term future. It shows where Hanworth Villa is heading and the foundations being laid to support sustainable success at every level. The new look stadium is testament to the dedication and skill of our volunteers and contractor Blakedown who turned around this amazing project in super quick time, it was around 15 weeks from the diggers coming in to the official opening of the new stadium!
Rectory Meadow and beyond
Whilst the development of our home has taken place we have also updated our online presence with the new website going live as part of our one club one home strategy. We have also been continuing to grow the ways you can follow the club with our live radio coverage on Villa Radio continuing to keep people connected to the club when they can't get to a fixture. Along with improving our written match coverage with live posting and match reports from our volunteer media team keeping up to date!
Momentum Into the New Year
As we head into the new year, there is plenty to be optimistic about. The current league campaign has started strongly, with the Villains sitting 4th in the table, firmly in the promotion picture and carrying real momentum into 2026. Performances have reflected a side growing in confidence and cohesion, supported brilliantly week in, week out by the red and black faithful.
